Established in the 18th century, Château Trotanoy derives its name from the French phrase "trop anoi," meaning "too troublesome," reflecting the challenging nature of its dense, clay-rich soils. Despite these difficulties, the estate has consistently produced wines of exceptional quality, solidifying its status as one of Pomerol's premier crus.
Located on the Pomerol plateau, Château Trotanoy's vineyards benefit from a favorable microclimate and diverse soil composition. The region's temperate climate and proximity to the Dordogne River create ideal conditions for viticulture, contributing to the unique profile of its wines.
The estate's 7.6-hectare vineyard is planted primarily with Merlot and a smaller proportion of Cabernet Franc. The dense mixture of clay and gravel soils imparts a distinctive minerality and structure to the wines, reflecting the unique terroir of Château Trotanoy.
