Domaine des Comtes Lafon is a renowned wine estate located in Meursault, Burgundy, France. Founded in 1894 by Jules Lafon, it has been under the stewardship of Dominique Lafon since 1984. The domaine is particularly famous for its white wines, especially its Meursault and Montrachet Grand Cru. It manages about 14 hectares of vineyards, including some of the most prestigious plots in Meursault.
The Côte de Beaune, where Domaine des Comtes Lafon is situated, is the southern half of the Côte d'Or, Burgundy's most prestigious wine region. It is renowned for producing some of the world's finest white wines, particularly from Chardonnay grapes. The area benefits from a continental climate with warm summers and cold winters, and its east-facing slopes provide ideal sun exposure for grape ripening.
Domaine des Comtes Lafon is characterized by its limestone-rich soils, typical of the Côte de Beaune region. This mineral-laden earth, combined with the area's cool climate and optimal sun exposure, contributes to the wines' distinctive minerality and complexity. The estate's various parcels, each with slight variations in soil composition and microclimate, allow for the production of wines that express the unique characteristics of their specific sites.
