Le Clarence de Haut-Brion is the second wine of Château Haut-Brion, a Bordeaux First Growth. Introduced in 2007, it replaced Château Bahans Haut-Brion and is named after Clarence Dillon, who bought Haut-Brion in 1935. Typically containing more Merlot than the Grand Vin, Le Clarence is more approachable young while maintaining Haut-Brion's style. It's made from younger vines and plots not used for the first wine, but with the same exacting standards.
Pessac-Léognan is a significant appellation in the Bordeaux region, known for its unique terroir that imparts a distinct minerality and complexity to its wines. Located in the northern part of the Graves region, it benefits from a climate that is ideal for the ripening of both red and white grape varieties, producing wines that are sophisticated and highly sought-after by connoisseurs around the world.
The terroir of Pessac-Léognan is characterized by its diverse soils, including gravel, sand, and clay. This mixture ensures excellent drainage and retains sufficient moisture during dry periods. The gravel components are particularly beneficial for the red varietals, as they reflect sunlight onto the vines and aid in the ripening process. This terroir contributes significantly to the depth and complexity for which wines from this region are celebrated.
