Domaine Roulot, founded in 1830 by Guillaume Roulot, is a distinguished estate located in Meursault, within Burgundy's Côte de Beaune. The domaine gained prominence under the leadership of Guy Roulot, who expanded its holdings and elevated the quality of its wines. Since 1989, his son, Jean-Marc Roulot, has managed the estate, implementing organic and biodynamic viticulture practices to enhance the expression of terroir in their wines.
The estate comprises approximately 16 hectares of vineyards, primarily planted with Chardonnay, reflecting the diverse terroirs of Meursault. Notable Premier Cru holdings include Les Perrières, Clos des Bouchères, and Les Charmes, each contributing unique characteristics to the wines. The vineyards are cultivated without synthetic chemicals, emphasizing natural preparations to promote soil health and vine vitality.
In the cellar, Jean-Marc Roulot employs traditional winemaking techniques with a focus on minimal intervention. Fermentations are carried out using indigenous yeasts, and the wines are aged in French oak barrels, with new oak usage carefully limited to preserve purity and transparency of the terroir. This approach results in wines renowned for their precision, minerality, and ability to age gracefully, solidifying Domaine Roulot's reputation as a benchmark for Meursault wines.
