Château Grand-Puy Ducasse, established in the 18th century, is located in the Pauillac appellation of Bordeaux. The estate was founded by Arnaud Ducasse, who acquired vineyard parcels on the Grand-Puy hill, a name derived from the ancient term "puy," meaning a small hill or elevation.
Situated on the left bank of the Gironde estuary, the Pauillac region benefits from a maritime climate, with the estuary providing a moderating influence. This climate, combined with the region's well-drained gravel soils, creates ideal conditions for cultivating Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot, the primary grape varieties of the area.
The 40-hectare vineyard of Château Grand-Puy Ducasse is planted on deep gravel soils over a limestone subsoil. This terroir imparts structure and complexity to the wines, resulting in expressions that are both powerful and elegant, with the capacity for long-term aging.
