Founded in 1923 by Cavalier Antonio Viberti, the Viberti Giovanni winery began as an extension of the family’s inn, Locanda del Buon Padre, producing wines exclusively for its patrons. In 1967, Antonio's son Giovanni, along with his wife Maria, expanded the winery's operations, acquiring additional vineyards and increasing production. Today, under the leadership of Claudio Viberti, the third generation, the estate combines traditional winemaking techniques with modern innovations, producing approximately 80,000 to 100,000 bottles annually.
Situated in the village of Barolo within Italy's Piedmont region, the estate's vineyards are predominantly located on the western-facing slopes at altitudes between 400 and 500 meters above sea level. This elevation contributes to a unique microclimate that enhances the aromatic complexity and structure of the wines. The region is renowned for producing Nebbiolo-based wines, particularly Barolo, often referred to as the "King of Wines."
The vineyards encompass several notable crus, including Bricco delle Viole, San Pietro, and La Volta, each offering distinct soil compositions and exposures. The diverse terroir, characterized by a multitude of microclimates and soil types, is ideal for growing Nebbiolo, resulting in wines that are complex, full-bodied, and capable of aging gracefully. The estate also cultivates Dolcetto, Barbera, and a small parcel of Chardonnay, reflecting the varied viticultural heritage of the region.
