Domaine la Terrasse d’Elise was founded by visionary winemaker Xavier Braujou in the late 1990s. Initially a logger by trade, Braujou transitioned to viticulture out of a passion for crafting unique, terroir-driven wines. Over the years, the domaine has gained acclaim for its focus on low-yield production and an artisan approach that prioritizes quality over quantity.
The estate is located in the Languedoc region of southern France, near the village of Aniane. This area, nestled in the Hérault Valley, has a Mediterranean climate that provides warm, sunny days and cool nights. Known for its long growing season, the region allows for slow ripening, which enhances the complexity of the wines.
The terroir of Domaine la Terrasse d’Elise is characterized by limestone-rich soils with clay and gravel deposits. These soils retain moisture while promoting excellent drainage, supporting healthy vine growth and balanced fruit development. The combination of warm coastal influences and cooling breezes from the Cévennes mountains enhances the expression of grape varieties such as Carignan, Cinsault, and Syrah.
