Domaine Stéphane Ogier, based in Ampuis, has become one of the leading names in the northern Rhône. Originally founded by Michel Ogier, the estate gained international recognition when Stéphane Ogier took over in the late 1990s, bringing a modern yet terroir-focused approach to winemaking. Today, the domaine is known for its precise, site-specific Syrah wines, particularly from Côte-Rôtie, as well as its growing presence in other Rhône appellations.
The northern Rhône is revered for its steep vineyards and world-class Syrah, Viognier, and Marsanne wines. With a continental climate characterized by warm summers and cold winters, the region produces wines of structure and longevity. Côte-Rôtie, where Ogier is based, is known for its elegant and perfumed expressions of Syrah, often blended with a small percentage of Viognier.
Ogier’s vineyards are planted on some of Côte-Rôtie’s finest sites, including the Côte Blonde and Côte Brune, which offer contrasting expressions of Syrah. The steep, terraced slopes are composed of schist, granite, and mica, providing excellent drainage and minerality. By focusing on small parcels and precise vinification, Ogier crafts wines that showcase the depth, aromatic complexity, and finesse of their terroir.
