Domaine Michel Niellon, established in the 1960s by Michel Niellon and his father Marcel, is a family-owned winery in Chassagne-Montrachet, Burgundy. Michel began working with his father in 1957, and together they built the estate's reputation for producing exceptional wines. Today, the domaine spans approximately 7.5 hectares and is managed by Michel's son-in-law, Michel Coutoux, who continues the family's winemaking legacy.
Situated in the Côte de Beaune subregion of Burgundy, Chassagne-Montrachet is renowned for its white wines, particularly those made from Chardonnay. The domaine's vineyards include holdings in prestigious Grand Cru sites such as Chevalier-Montrachet and Bâtard-Montrachet, as well as several Premier Cru and village-level parcels. This diverse range of vineyards allows the estate to produce wines that showcase the unique characteristics of each terroir.
The vineyards are planted primarily on limestone and clay soils, which contribute to the wines' minerality and complexity. The estate practices sustainable viticulture, avoiding the use of herbicides and employing plowing to control weeds. Harvesting is done early to retain acidity and freshness in the grapes, resulting in wines that balance crisp minerality with rich, ripe fruit flavors.
