Domaine Leflaive, established in its current form by Joseph Leflaive between 1910 and 1930, represents over three centuries of winemaking heritage in Puligny-Montrachet. Originally founded by Claude Leflaive in 1717, the estate grew through Joseph’s acquisitions, creating one of Burgundy’s most prestigious domaines. Today, the estate spans 24 hectares in Puligny-Montrachet, including coveted grand and premier cru vineyards. Under the leadership of Brice de La Morandière, great-grandson of Joseph Leflaive, the domaine continues its legacy of excellence with a deep commitment to biodynamic viticulture.
Puligny-Montrachet, situated in Burgundy’s Côte de Beaune, is synonymous with some of the world’s most celebrated Chardonnay. Its limestone-rich soils, tempered by traces of clay and essential minerals, create wines of unparalleled elegance, minerality, and complexity. The region’s grand cru vineyards, such as Bienvenues-Bâtard-Montrachet and Chevalier-Montrachet, are legendary for their ability to produce wines that age gracefully while reflecting the purity of their terroir.
Domaine Leflaive’s biodynamic approach enhances the expression of Puligny-Montrachet’s calcareous soils and unique microclimates. The careful exclusion of chemical inputs and reliance on natural rhythms foster biodiversity and soil vitality, allowing Chardonnay vines to thrive. In the cellar, traditional Burgundian methods, including indigenous yeast fermentation and extended aging, ensure that each wine reflects its origin. From the floral elegance of premier crus to the depth of grands crus, Domaine Leflaive’s wines embody the harmony of nature and meticulous craftsmanship.
