Domaine Saumaize, located in the heart of the Mâconnais, is a family-run estate founded by Roger and Christine Saumaize. Today, the domaine is managed by their son-in-law, who continues the family’s tradition of crafting high-quality Chardonnay. Known for their dedication to sustainable viticulture, the Saumaize family has established the estate as a benchmark for expressive white wines in the region.
The Mâconnais, in southern Burgundy, is celebrated for its excellent Chardonnay, offering wines with richness and minerality. The region enjoys a warmer climate compared to northern Burgundy, promoting optimal ripeness in the grapes. Within the Mâconnais, appellations such as Pouilly-Fuissé, where Domaine Saumaize is based, are known for producing elegant wines with depth and aging potential.
The vineyards of Domaine Saumaize are planted on limestone-rich soils, a hallmark of the Mâconnais, which imparts freshness and minerality to the wines.
