2008 Château Ducru-Beaucaillou
The 2008 vintage demonstrates Ducru-Beaucaillou's ability to achieve excellence even in challenging years through meticulous vineyard management. This Saint-Julien reveals classic aromatics of cassis, graphite, and cedar, with subtle notes of violets and tobacco emerging with air. The palate shows the precision and aristocratic restraint typical of great Ducru, combining remarkable concentration with Second Growth finesse, while the characteristic gravelly minerality provides a complex foundation through the persistent finish.

Château Ducru-Beaucaillou is a renowned Bordeaux wine estate located in the Saint-Julien appellation. The property dates back to the 13th century and has been owned by the Borie family since 1941. Ducru-Beaucaillou is classified as a Second Growth (Deuxième Cru) in the Bordeaux Wine Official Classification of 1855. The château produces exceptional red wines, primarily from Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot grapes.
Saint-Julien is one of the smallest appellations in the Médoc region of Bordeaux, France. It is situated between Pauillac to the north and Margaux to the south, spanning about 910 hectares of vineyards. Saint-Julien is known for producing some of the most consistent and high-quality wines in the Médoc, with a reputation for elegance and balance.
Château Ducru-Beaucaillou is characterized by its deep gravel soils, which give the estate its name ("beaucaillou" means "beautiful stones" in Gascon). These gravelly soils provide excellent drainage and heat retention, ideal for growing Cabernet Sauvignon. The estate's proximity to the Gironde estuary helps moderate temperatures, creating a microclimate that contributes to the consistent ripening of grapes.
