Premier Grand Cru Classé A (First Growth)

Château Lafite Rothschild

Estate

Château Lafite Rothschild, a crown jewel of the Pauillac appellation on Bordeaux's Left Bank, holds the prestigious status of First Growth in the 1855 Classification. Though its viticultural roots trace back to 1620, the estate's legendary ascent truly began in 1868 when Baron Rothschild acquired the property. Over the centuries, Lafite Rothschild has become synonymous with exceptional Bordeaux wine, embodying the pinnacle of the region's winemaking tradition.

2004

Unsung Classic

While often overlooked due to the stellar 2005 vintage, the 2004 Bordeaux wines offer classic balance and finesse. With good fruit concentration, moderate tannins, and refreshing acidity, many are now entering their prime drinking window.

2015

Nature's Perfect Balance

The beginning of winter was mild, dry and the beneficial cold weather did not arrived until the end of January, accompanied by rainfall. The budburst started at the beginning of April as usual and the vine then developed rapidly thanks to the water reserves and the temperate climate. In June, the flowering was early and homogeneous, a promising sign for the further development of grapes. The influence of the ocean and the estuary permitted to balance a hot summer with high temperatures. Water stress was high, but the rains of August brought the freshness necessary for the veraison and perfect maturation. The ideal conditions were reunited at harvest time, allowing the best of each plot to be obtained.

2019

Pinnacle of Modern Winemaking

The 2019 vintage from Chateau Lafite Rothschild demonstrates the estate's mastery in adapting to increasingly warm growing seasons. Spring was mild but wet, requiring careful management to control mildew pressure. Summer brought heat and drought, concentrating flavors in the grapes, while cool nights in August and September helped maintain freshness and aromatics. The team's precise picking decisions resulted in a wine of remarkable balance, combining depth and elegance in classic Lafite style.

2020

Thriving Under Pressure

Chateau Lafite Rothschild's 2020 vintage highlights the estate's ability to excel in challenging climatic conditions. The year began with a mild, wet winter, followed by an early budbreak and a warm spring that led to early flowering. Summer brought drought conditions and intense heat, requiring precise canopy management to protect the grapes. An early harvest allowed the team to pick each parcel at optimal ripeness, producing a wine of exceptional concentration and energy that promises great longevity.

2021

When Expertise Conquers Nature

The 2021 vintage from Chateau Lafite Rothschild showcases the estate's expertise in overcoming one of the most difficult growing seasons in recent memory. Severe spring frost in April significantly reduced yields, followed by an unusually cool and wet summer that increased disease pressure in the vineyards. The team's meticulous work, including extensive green harvesting and sorting, was crucial in ensuring quality. Despite these challenges, Lafite produced a wine of surprising finesse and aromatic complexity, reflecting both the unique character of this testing vintage and the enduring greatness of the terroir.
