Plenty of red fruit character here, plus notes of wet earth, blood orange and violets. Excellent concentration for 2022 with beautifully integrated fine tannins, the fresh acidity helping to drive the long, delicately earthy finish. Drinkable now, but best from 2025.

Aromas of sweet berries, cherries, vine smoke, petals and forest floor preface the 2021 Bonnes Mares Grand Cru, a medium to full-bodied, rich and fleshy palate that's quite muscular and layered in the context of the vintage, with powdery tannins, lively acids and a saline finish.

The Estate

Domaine Comte Georges de Vogüé stands out even among Burgundy's historic estates, tracing its roots back over 550 years to 1450 when Jean Moisson cultivated vines in Chambolle. Now in its 20th generation of family ownership, the domain is led by Claire de Causans and Marie de Ladoucette, granddaughters of the late Comte Georges de Vogüé. Widely regarded as the greatest estate in Chambolle-Musigny, it owns 7.25 hectares of the grand Cru Musigny vineyard, representing 70% of this revered site. With additional holdings in Bonnes-Mares and Chambolle-Musigny Les Amoureuses, the domaine produces some of Burgundy's most sought-after and age-worthy Pinot Noirs, maintaining its position as a benchmark producer through a steadfast commitment to quality and tradition.

Bonnes Mares' Triumph Over Adversity

The 2021 growing season in Burgundy presented significant challenges for Domaine Comte de Vogüé, with spring frosts severely reducing yields and cool, wet conditions persisting through much of the summer. However, the estate's meticulous vineyard management and the natural drainage of the Bonnes Mares vineyard helped mitigate these difficulties. A late season warm spell allowed for adequate ripening, resulting in a wine of surprising depth and classic Burgundian finesse, showcasing the characteristic minerality and tension of this exceptional terroir.
