This delightful wine features bright cherry fruit aromas that open up with more spice and earth nuance on the palate. The texture is fresh but not at all lacking in substance. The key for Lupatelli was careful sorting in the vineyard; once the fruit was in, the results were satisfying, save that quantity was about half a ‘normal’ harvest. The grapes come from 1.8 hectares of Les Porlottes, near the top of the slope, blended with 0.24 hectares split between the premier crus Les Baudes and Les Fuées. Well suited for early drinking or mid-term ageing.

The amount of tannins here is not so great, but the sleekness of the wine means you feel them quite directly. Some green pepper from stems alongside the red cherry fruit and dried citrus peel notes. Impressive length at the moderately dry finish. Drink or hold.

The 2021 Chambolle-Musigny Village offers up aromas of sweet berries, exotic spices, orange rind and forest floor, followed by a medium-bodied, supple and fleshy palate that's sapid and melting, with a pretty core of fruit and a perfumed finish.

The Estate

Domaine Comte Georges de Vogüé stands out even among Burgundy's historic estates, tracing its roots back over 550 years to 1450 when Jean Moisson cultivated vines in Chambolle. Now in its 20th generation of family ownership, the domain is led by Claire de Causans and Marie de Ladoucette, granddaughters of the late Comte Georges de Vogüé. Widely regarded as the greatest estate in Chambolle-Musigny, it owns 7.25 hectares of the grand cru Musigny vineyard, representing 70% of this revered site. With additional holdings in Bonnes-Mares and Chambolle-Musigny Les Amoureuses, the domaine produces some of Burgundy's most sought-after and age-worthy Pinot Noirs, maintaining its position as a benchmark producer through a steadfast commitment to quality and tradition.
