Muscular and powerful, the 2019 Chassagne-Montrachet 1er Cru Les Ruchottes wafts from the glass with notes of pear, orange oil, peach, nutmeg and spices. Medium to full-bodied, fleshy and concentrated, it's a rich, broad-shouldered Ruchottes that's quite demonstrative out of the gates.

The Estate

Domaine Ramonet, founded in the early 20th century by Pierre Ramonet, is one of Burgundy's most revered white wine producers. Located in Chassagne-Montrachet, the domaine is now run by Noël Ramonet and his brother Jean-Claude, representing the third generation. With approximately 17 hectares of vineyards, including prized parcels in grand cru sites like Montrachet and Bâtard-Montrachet, Ramonet is renowned for producing some of the world's finest Chardonnays. The estate's meticulous vineyard management and traditional winemaking techniques result in wines of exceptional purity, complexity, and longevity.

Premier Cru Precision Triumphs 2016

At Domaine Ramonet's Les Ruchottes parcel, the devastating spring frosts of 2016 significantly reduced yields, though the elevated position of this premier cru helped protect some of the crop. The summer brought favorable conditions that concentrated the remaining fruit, while the well-drained, limestone-rich soils contributed to maintaining crucial acidity. Despite the challenging start, the September harvest delivered grapes with exceptional concentration and mineral intensity, resulting in a wine of remarkable precision and aging potential.

Precision Meets Power in 2019

At Domaine Ramonet, the 2019 growing season began with a cool spring, followed by a hot, dry summer that tested the deep-rooted old vines in Les Ruchottes' limestone-rich soils. The estate's early harvest decision in early September proved crucial, preserving crucial acidity while capturing the intense concentration from the warm vintage. The resulting wines show exceptional balance between ripeness and freshness, characteristic of Ramonet's thoughtful approach to a warming climate.
