Champagne Henriot was founded in 1808 by Apolline Henriot in Reims, France. Drawing from her family's viticultural background and inspired by her great-uncle, Canon Godinot, a noted scholar in viticulture, Apolline established the house with a commitment to producing high-quality Champagnes. Over the centuries, the Henriot family has maintained its independence, focusing on excellence and expanding its vineyard holdings.
Situated in the heart of the Champagne region, Reims serves as a central hub for Champagne production. The region is characterized by its cool climate and unique chalky soils, which contribute to the distinctiveness of its sparkling wines. Reims, along with Épernay and Ay, forms the core of Champagne's viticultural area, encompassing various sub-regions such as Montagne de Reims, Vallée de la Marne, and Côte des Blancs.
Champagne Henriot sources grapes from some of the finest Grand and Premier Cru vineyards, particularly emphasizing Chardonnay from the Côte des Blancs and Pinot Noir from the Montagne de Reims. The diverse terroirs, including varying exposures, slopes, and soil compositions, allow the house to craft Champagnes with complexity and elegance. The commitment to understanding and preserving these terroirs is exemplified by initiatives like the Alliance Terroirs project, which focuses on adapting viticultural practices to each specific vineyard site.
