Mas de Daumas Gassac was established in the early 1970s by Aimé and Véronique Guibert, who transformed an abandoned farmhouse near the abbey of Aniane into a pioneering wine estate. Recognizing the unique potential of the Gassac Valley, they planted their first vines in 1972, leading to the inaugural vintage in 1978. Over the years, the estate has gained international acclaim for producing high-quality wines that showcase the distinct characteristics of their terroir.
Located in the Gassac Valley, near the town of Gignac in the Languedoc region of southern France, Mas de Daumas Gassac benefits from a unique microclimate. The valley's orientation and the influence of the nearby Mediterranean Sea create conditions conducive to viticulture, allowing for the cultivation of a diverse range of grape varieties. This setting contributes to the production of wines with remarkable freshness and complexity.
The estate's vineyards are planted on deep, well-drained soils rich in mineral oxides, including iron and copper, and poor in organic matter. This soil composition, combined with underground cold water springs and the surrounding massifs of Arboussas and Larzac, contributes to a unique terroir reminiscent of the finest sites in Burgundy. The Guiberts' commitment to organic farming and minimal intervention winemaking further enhances the expression of this exceptional terroir in their wines.
